Default Odd problem, maybe not even a problem at all.....

I have a '98 RS and my friend has a '95 240 SX. Well as most friends do we race our cars occasionally, well that's when I realized that my car wouldn't top off at the same speed. Sometimes it would top off at 115 sometimes at 111 but I could never get it to go over about 116. So I am wondering if there is some kind of speed limiter or fuel limiter and if so how is this removed/replaced?

More than likely your car was ordered with H rated tires from the factory, thus GM put a speed limiter programmed into the PCM at 115. You cannot manually remove it by "cutting wires" or anything like that, it has to be taken out of the PCM program. Before you have it removed I would suggest upgrading to a Z rated tire so you can have a safe speed rating.

I was looking for "Z" rated speed tires but the only thing that was even close that I could find was "ZR" was that what you were referring to?

If a listed speed rating contains two letters (such as VR), the first letter represents the speed rating and the second letter (R) indicates that it is a radial tire.

This is what discount tire says about that...

You can get your governer removed by reprogramming your PCM, also, if your an auto, you can also change shift points, air to fuel ratio, up your timing 1-2 degrees, etc... you'll get another 10-15 HP, and cut out that annoying limiter... I did this at work all the time and works well... You can also contact zzp ( 3.8 performance specalists ) and they can sell you an off the shelf PCM... that is the BEST way to go...
