Isn't the 97 v6 a 3.8l, 3800 series already? I thought 97 was the first year of the 3.8l, after the 3.4l.

My question was more along the lines of differences in the engine.... As far as placement and size demision.... For instance is the starter located on the lower driverside region of the engine or is it placed in another area such as inside the motor under the fuel injection lines....

Well I am no expert on the 3800 series, but as far as I know all of the ones installed in camaros are 95% the same. I have worked on from 01 and one from 99 and they were idenctical.

The only problem with that though, is 1999 and 2001 had the same front end, 1997 had the older fascia.

I don't know but I have just the opposite problem. I have a 98 with a bad motor and am looking at a 97 engine that is for sale. The engines look the same except the harmaonic balancer on the front of the engine and a few more shields around the manifold and starter on the 98. I have noticed in ads that the seller list the engine as a "K" engine but list them 95 thru 97 and 98 thru 02. Are they different or do they list them that way because the body style is a little different?
