is 225hp and 351 torque respectful.i didnt think so .the engine is coming out and a new cam, heads and intake are going back in.after the dyno run i felt a big disappointment and just disgusted.those numbers are way off from what i expected, the car pulls real hard and will throw you back in the seat.i find nothing respectful about it .this is a 78 camaro with a 454 ,400 turbo and 370 rearend

while doing 100mph on this dyno, its supossed to factor in the wind and everything else as if you were going down the freeway at 100mph.the dyno was call a mustang dynamometer, had two drums that supplied resistance all the way thru the pull

a stock 454 puts out 245 to the flywheel, while my motor has stock rods, crank ,block and heads.it has hyd.roller xr-282,roller rockers and lifters,9.5 compression speed pro pistons,781 castingbbc heads, they are suppossed to be one of the better stock heads,balanced,highrise-split plenum,750 holley-mechanical secondaries, flamethrower distributor

For a smog era car with all the restrictions the numbers seem ok. One thing is the torque seems low for a big block 454 even for a 70's car.

I presume the 225 number was measured at the rear wheels? That would put your flywheel h.p. in the neighborhood of 265 h.p., still not killer numbers consideringthe big block's potential.Figuringthe modest modifications it has now, it doesn't sound too far off base compared tothe stock rating.

ya it was measured at the rear wheels.i never knew how hard or how much it really took to get 300-400 h.p..there was full blown race cars there that was puttin out 400hp and when i say full blown i'm talking about slicks ,sheet metal bodies ,roll cages,no blowers.there was a trailblazer s/s that put out 467h.p. and over 500torque,he special ordered it with a vette motor, talk about a sleeper

No Sir he didn't order that SS trailblazer l i k e that they come from the factory with a 400 hp LS2 engine. If it has 467 at the wheels it is built pretty good especially if it is the AWD version.

Thats not too bad. With some good timing to the carb and timing you could probaly get a better pull. The numbers are a little low for a 454.

the last pull was the best and it produced the numbers i posted and that was from a dead stop.the tech doing the dyno said the spark became very erratic.the week before i was going to a car show and i thought i had plug fouling but then it cleared up.i think i have a distributor issue ,i have went thru 4 boxes of plugs since getting this engine running 3 years ago.i have played with the jetting and the timing.went smaller on the jets ,it would not run ,went bigger and it would load up and just about stall

well i found out why the timing was erratic.the fly weight studs on top of the distributor came out,not allowing the the weights to work.how would this affect the hp/tq rating
