Default Best mod question!

I have a 1980 camaro z-28. Im going to have about $2000-$2500 to spend on it and im wanting to make it alot faster than it is. I already have good suspension and everything is good handleing wise. So what mods should i buy to make it faster i already have a holley carb and holley intake and performance rods, lifters, cam. Im thinking i should look into a supercharger or maybe boreing it out to a 383 stroker. Im trying to learn as i go and im only 17 so please bare with me. Any help would be much appreciated.

To get to the 383 you would need to stroke it from 3.48 to 3.75 which is the 400 stroke. I dont know what the condition of the engine is in but boring it will not gain you alot stroking will gain some and increase compression but to really gain the benefit of stroking the engine I would suggest a head upgrade. Youmay not have enought $ to do both and In my opinion a good set of heads will put you further ahead than stroking it and using the factory smog heads. Really need to know what pistons you have rod length, cam specs, has the block been decked, general engine specs in detail crank included.

ok well everything has been re-built but im pretty sure eveything was built back to spec for 1980 so it doesn't make that much power. I want it to be able to throw me back into my seat. How would i go maing a 383 stroker. I want someting very reliable and i dont think superchargers are very reliable.

If the motor is a fresh rebuild then it's like griff said, go with something like a set of edelbrock heads, if your not sure what cam you have, then get the whole edelbrock Pkg........Heads, cam & lifters, intake. Save the 383 for when you need to have the motor rebuilt.

All right im going to look into that. So should i got with edelbrock??? I have holley right now. And about how much $$$ is this going to cost me to do a whole head upgrade with and without the cam. I'd rather do one without a cam because i dont want to have to pull the engine out. or should i just go with the whole thing??? What would happen if i kept my old cam in and did a head upgrade???

That depends on what the cam is in the car. I would do the whole setup....minus the carb. If you have some time then order a jegs catalog and do some lookin. www.jegs.com there are 2 choises for Edelbrock the performer and the performer RPM . It depends on what you are looking for as to what one to get.

Yep, .....well the heads and intake, You may have a cam close to the edelbrock.......If you thinl it's a stock cam, then the cam and lifters as well.

You should go with an Polished Edelbrock Performer Air Gap intake, AFR 195cc Eliminator heads, Headman Elite headers, Flowmaster mufflers on a 2 1/4 exhaust, and a MSD 6AL box. You willnotice a big difference in power.
