Default 820 heads on a 89 454 truck engine

Hi,

I put an 89 454 truck engine in a 69 camaro, stock with excellent exhaust system/headers, 750 edelbrock/intake, 4 spd, 3.36 gears. runs good, solid power considering, obviously, all low end torque. Think engine was advertised from chevy as Horsepower 255 @ 4000 RPM Torque 405 @ 2400. Compression Ratio 7.9? 116cc heads (guessing?)

I was offered a free set of 820 heads, good shape, could be installed as the sit from outward appearance.

Question, it’s already low compression – but with restricted flow from peanut heads. Would it help to install these heads on the stock lower end? Would it affect compression much? Am I all wrong and would it drop compression? I would buy a cam to match as best possible if someone thinks it’s a good idea to put these on. (glad to take suggestions there as well, just want to maintain enough vacuum for power brakes – assuming a big cam won’t do this engine much good – maybe just for 1500-5000 range cam?)

Or am I wasting time for an insignificant gain?

Thanks

Frank
