Default 454 build up question

Ok I'm lookin to add as much power by to a 454 without nitrous or the other helpers. Not bored and stroked. It seems that no matter what the head and cam combo the 454 tops out around the 550 Hp range. I know there is alot in a motor to get all the different #'s just seems no matter what I change in the buid list the #'s come up the same. Is that the limit of the motor or will it push the 650 range with the same bore and stroke?

650 is alot of hp for the stock bore and stroke...I would go the 550hp route, even then you will have more than enough power man, just concentrate on getting that **** to the ground, you already are gonna have a hard enough time.

Even w/ the 550hp combo, you will still probably need a new crankshaft

ALSO, get a Stall and Shift kit

thats why I was wondering, cuz If the 550 is the limit then the Gm crank and rods will be fine. And really there is no need for the head work if it will only add 100 more, that can be done with a small shot of nitrous. That also means that there is no need to swap cam's cuz there will be almost no gain until the heads are worked.Gettin it to the ground will be the easy part, about 500 for the parts and the labor is free. that saves a few grand. Wich can then be put into a new rear end and a better trans.

Dumb question, but does it need to run on pump gas?

Are you using the heads that are on it now and what heads are currently on there now? Whats your combo as is?

600HP is not that hard to attain with the right cam heads.

The heads on there now are the large Gm oval port with the crane muscle car cam, Rpm air gap and probably a demon 850 carb. The heads I want to get are the http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_86136_-1and the cam http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_29230_-1or close to that....and yes on pump gas.oh yeahroller rockers and large tube headers are on it as well. I plan on sticking with a mechanical water pump and flex fan.....One of the big if's was an internal balanced/forged crank and rods. I know thats a plus for RPM's but not needed for the 500hp range.

It can be done but what RPM do you want to run and what type of fuel do you want to run? These answers will decide if you can do it or not.

I plan on the 89-93 gas and the 5500 rpm , unless I get the internal balanced stuff.

I wonder how much those WP heads weigh, I know the Dart IE heads I put on my 400 seemed alot heavyer than stock heads which if the same hold true with WP I would think would be compounded with the big block heads.

That would suck, I would go with aluminum but want cast heads. I would probably be better off havin the stock ones done to get better results. With a motor this big more weight isnt good.

If you are running forged pistons and have a balanced bottom end, then ditch the crane muscle cam andinvest ina hydrolic roller with a split duration something like a292/298. yes they are expesnive, but trust me you will feel the difference...
What size valves are in the heads?

Tell me more about the total package you are running..? rear. tranny suspesion exhaust etc....
