Default 427 ???

I was offered a chance to buy a 427 for $4000, He said it has been rebuilt 8 years ago and then had a hart attack and never started it, that it stayed in storage.
He said it has new closed chambered heads it has 12.5/1 compression thats its very healthy but he couldnt remember what all he had done to it but he is sure it has around 700hp would this sound like a god dea l to anybody els?

It will fit your f-body. I think some more info should be said before a good opinion of the deal is given. year, from what vehicle, iron or aluminum, internals etc...

I wouldn't pay 4k for an engine that had been sitting for 8 years unless it fit into one or more of the following catagories:

1. It was stored inside the entire time totally protected from the elements and it was from someone I've known for many years that I trusted.

2. I was allowed to pull a head(s) to check inside and pull the pan to look there as well.

3. I heard it run or drove it in the vehicle it came from first. Although you say it has never been installed I think this is good overall advice.

4. The person selling it had a very good reputation in the "business" that could be damaged by selling you a POS engine. And that person gave you his/her personal guarantee that the engine was a "good 'un".

Just my personal opinion on such things. 4 grand is a lot to me, no matter what I'm buying.

PS: 12.5:1 compression is too much for the street. You'll have to buy race fuel, add lots of octane booster or change some internals to lower the CR in order to drive it.

Thanks for the advice everybody, The motor is kept inside a weatherised building, He has a pretty good rep for his abilty make things run, he was a local hero on the drag strip and from what i was told he was best. He said he cant do the work anymore because of the pacemaker that he had to put in so he is selling everything he can, including his bradly GT , 79 Z-28 and a couple of dun buggys
