But thats good...I found a 400ci motor for about $250 canadian, but its in pieces...just waiting for a rebuild. so hopefully everything comes together. Thanks for the help!

RE: 400ci 2 bolt main
I personnally really like the 400 run a good cooling system(kind of funny being -10 wind chilloutside). The 4 bolt 2 bolt refers to the number of bolts it takes to hold the main caps on which holds the crank in place. Normally a factory 4 bolt small block is considered stronger than a 2 bolt smallblock the 400 is the exception to the rule. Due to the thinner web area of the 400 the extra two bolts (of a 4 bolt)weaken this area. If you are lucky and have the 509 or 511casting and want to build a powerful 400 you can add splayed main caps that angle the outer bolt into a stronger area. There are two motor mounts on the engine. Keep us informed on your build there are plenty of tips on the 400.

awesome, thats good to hear. would anyone know where i could find a general guide to rebuilding an engine? I've got some of the basics down, but this would be my first complete tear down and rebuild. any ideas or help would be appreciated.
