so you want to put 8k into the motor or motor and car. 8k will get u a nice 4 gen car with enuff lift over to do some easy bolt ons to get thru the summer. what body style do you like? yes the car
there are differences in the 350s so some of the models will take only certain motors without major changes. u will want to have an idea of what generation camaro u want, then you can see what 350 will be best suited for that car before building.

hopefully camaro 69 will come back on this one for ya. pretty sure 2nd gen cars will take any 350 motor depending on the front susupension. 8k motor should kick some major a$$
make sure you have tires to hold you on the strip or you will just keep spinnin em all the way down the track, after that i would start with headers and a cam, that will let the motor breath, good flow allows for the motor to run the way it should. Then i would port and polish the head and get it up to the specs you expect to run. make sure you get the most amount of intake, the most amount of exhaust. After that everything else you add is all for the better. Once you get in the higher HP your going to need to make sure the tranny is up to par and the differential. but thats later, you can get away with headers and cam and do good. till you know exactly what your going to do.
start with a good 4 bolt main motor, bare block or short block. then u need to decide if u want to go with the stroker or not. (youve probly seen the kits) u are right to try and do the math befoehand. if your budget allows for the stroke the block will need to be bored. if not the stroker and u chose to go with used motor or bare block, the block will still need to be mic'd and honed or bored. unless u have access to a machine shop and know how u will need to take into account the work done at the machine shop. the other choise is a rebuilt short block or new short block. once you are done with the lower end then its what ^they said. do check out the stickies there is good info there to.
You have enough of a budget to go to an aftermarket block, such as a dart http://www.dartheads.com/products/sh...ll-blocks.html
