3.4 even swap
i have a 95 camaro with a 3.4. it has 750,000 miles, a rod knocking, and i have to fill it with fluids frequently. i have been pricing the same motor with under 100,000 miles. the motor isnt going to cost much, but i am having trouble finding someone to do the work. i want to know how difficult it is to do this. could i do it at my own house? let me know.
750,000 miles! You should write GM a letter and they may send you a plaque or something of that nature. Changing engine is time consuming, but not difficult if you have the proper tools. Most important is an engine crane (cherry picker), and a good repair manual.
Just make sure you keep track of where everything plugs in. Get a friend and a case of beer for breaks and you should be good to go! Take your time, don't rush yourself and it should go pretty smoothly.
Wow, 750,000 miles? Or is that a typo? That engine just might be a museum piece!
Take plenty of pictures of everything under the hood, and close-ups of all the connections. A couple of minutes spent now taking pics, might save you hours of aggravation later.

thanks for the post guys, and that is a typo. the car has 175,000 miles, my mistake. so an engine crane will get the motor in and out? i thought it could only come out from the bottom, does any one know a site that could help me get started with this?
You should be able to get it out from the top if you unbolt it from the transmission and tilt it. You can't lift it straight up, but it should come out with enough manipulation.
Too bad that 750K was a typo, that would have been an amazing run!

there isn't really a website out there that will be able to help you out a lot, go to an autoparts store and see if you can track down a hayne's or chiltons manual for your car, in those books, they tell you everything you need to know and show you the step by step on how to do it, it is extremley easy, but as posted before, deffinetly take some pics beforehand, it'll save you a ton of aggrevation. good luck.
