Undercoating removal

Undercoating removal
I have a very nice 1980 Z that was undercaoted at the dealer 30 years ago. I am trying to find the right chemical to use on areas where the undercoating is on finshed areas of the car. The objective here is to remove only the coating and leaving the finish intact.
Can any of my Camaro Enthusiats bretheren lead me to the right chemical to use on my Z?
Thanks

The area of concern are the door jambs and there is also some on the rear valance under the bumper.
I appreciate your feedback but, isn't acetone a little strong? I am hoping to remove the undercoating and bring back the finish.
Nice looking RS!
Thanks again.

I'm at a body shop where we spray bed-liners. Needless to say, are Spray boy isn't exactly the best.
We've had to wipe over spray off the bed sides multiple times with out any real concerns. Acetone is what we've always used. Be Gentle and use small amounts.
Thats all I have from personal experience.

GMD - Thanks for the feedback. I am still a little nervous about Acetone. Since I have run out of ideas, it may be my last resort. When you have used it, does it dull the finish or cut the clear coat?

Use a good quality COLD formula oven cleaner. Spray it on, keep checking for the undercoat to loosen and wash off with a pressure washer. As long as you don't leave it on for hours the paint is OK. We have done this on many cars/trucks with great results.

I think It may have dulled a few times, but a quick buff and wax took care of it. I do not know the Condition of your paint though. All undercoating that we've had to remove was on fairly new cars & trucks.
