car got keyed
a couple months ago my camaro got keyed with paint less than a year old. Some of the scratch was actually scratched in the paint and some was jus stuff that could be taken off so i had my girlfriends dad use some rubbing compound and it got most of the stuff out but now in the sun you can still see the scratch but it just looks like a fog, ive washed it many times and it still shows so id there anything i can do to get rid of it??? thanks
The area that only scratched the clearcoat can be fixed easily. Whatever went through the color coat can't be as easily. Can you feel the scratch in the clearcoat with your fingernail now? If so, you would need to wet-sand the scratch with 1500 grit, then follow up with a fine liquid rubbing compound and a high speed power buffer. Then use a swirl remover polish with the power buffer again (after washing out the rubbing compound). You really need to know what you're doing, or one "oops"could wreck the paint. The scratch through the color coat will need to be touched up. To save yourself from a repaint, you can use touch-up paint, use the type with a "pen" tip, not the brush. They make a cool sanding stick that is made up of tons of fine glass strands, and you can sand (grind) down the touch-up paint in a very concentrated area like using an eraser. Auto Zone has it. Then follow up with the same wet sand/polish as before. You'll still be able to see the fix if you look for it, but it's better than leaving it alone.
