carb "port vacuum" question

carb "port vacuum" question
Just about every accessory that uses vacuum connects to "manifold" vacuum. So what is the "port" vacuum for? The only time I think I saw it used was on an early style ford with a two nipple vacuum modulator for the C4 trans. Thanks
