Default security

Hi all:
So I have a '95 z28. Will the factory security system go weird if I take out the original stereo and replace it?
thanks
Duane

OK. The deck says ACDELCO on it and at the top of the display it says "THEFTLOCK." How do I turn off the theft lock?
thanks

The security system for the radio is internal to the radio itself and separate from the VATS system in the car. If you plan to reuse the original radio, you will need a code to make it work again after it has been disconnected from the car. Since the VATS itself does not care about the radio, you can replace the original radio with another one of any brand, as long as it does have its own built in theft deterrent system that, in which case the instructions of how to handle it should come with the new radio. You may want to check in the owners manual, as the original owner may have written the security code down, assuming he/she read the manual.

You can get this code from a Dealer, but you might have to physically take the car and radio up to prove you own them. I had to do this once.

So just to be clear. I can take the original radio out and replace it with an aftermarket unit without any detrimental effects to the operation of the vehicle. It is only if I want to put the original radio back in that I need the security code as noted above.
Appreciate the feed back (pun intended)
thanks
Duane
