Default New sub box

I took a few pictures of my new subwoofer box. I measured it up by laying a 10 on the mounting surface, I was wrong, a 15 will not work at all, but a 12 should.

Made from 3/4" MDF with a mount depth of 7.25"

Are you going to carpet it at all? or possibly even paint?

Yeah, it's going to get carpeted, that's just pictures of fitment and construction. I've already got the carpet in my basement, I just need a can of adhesive and I'm all set for that. Still have to cut the speaker holes, but that's no biggie.

Here are a few more progress pictures. I have the rough install done, the only thing left to do now is carpet and clean up wiring. Now that I have driven around with it for a day or so, I have an idea of how it sounds and looks. It will definitely look better once carpeted, but it definitely doesn't get in the way for visibility. Sound quality is so-so, but better than expected for the amount of money I have in the speakers. ($20 for the speakers and 100 for the amp, 7 years ago). Bass does not overpower the music. It does fill in the lows nicely though, especially for what I listen to most of the time.

The box is sized right for a pair of Kicker CVR10 speakers according to the spec sheet, so future will be upgrading to those and a better amplifier(s).

Alright, to clear up any questions about rear visibility:
Rearview mirror, you can see the reflection of the setup in the back glass, but it's not bad.

Looking good, but its definitley time to upgrade the subs.
Just a suggestion; you should have put the speaker terminals on back side of the box.
Looking at it though I bet it will sound pretty good when you get new subs.
Good Job.......

If I got bigger subs, yeah the terminals would have to move, but 10s should be fine right there. It may help to have cleaner wiring if the terminals were on the back too, but then it would interfere with the trunk divider. As it is, it can stand straight up and allow for perfect trunk access.

If I mount *anything* on the back of the box it will interfere with the flap. Otherwise I would have mounted the amp on the back. (Technically I could tuck it down in the trunk, or in the side cubby, but this makes it easier to remove the whole works if I ever need to).

A suggestion I had on this would be to tilt the box toward the front of the car (prop the back side up) to help project the sound forward, I may try this on a temporary basis to see what it does, but to do it right I would have to remake the box so that the top panel tipped forward. Live and learn eh?

Alright, I feel dumb. The sound quality was sorely lacking, and I was blaming it on old/crappy subs and tiny amp.

Do you know what happens when 2 subs share and airspace and are 180 degrees out of phase with each other?

Yeah, a lot of movement, and not much noise. Somehow I had wired the passenger side sub backwards [sm=bangbang.gif]

So feel free to [sm=laughat.gif]

But now, gawdayum does it bump
