Default Help me build the perfect system for 200 bucks or less

Ok so here we are. I just got a little extra spending money and I've decided to upgrade my current stock 6 speaker monsoon system. I am thrilled with the sound I have now, the middle 2 speakers have to be small subs themselves, cuz they literally pound you. But I want just a little bit more.

So I don't want anything huge, no need for 2xx 12's or anything, I don't want to waste the space. I was thinking of doing 1x 10 in or maybe 12 in, but I really don't know yet. Here's the thing, I know NOTHING about hooking it up, so please help. I know you need an amp to power the sub because otherwise your battery will go dead or something but thats about it. Told you, I'm clueless, never done this before. I really want the experience of hooking it up myself though.

Whats the dif between 10's and 12's? Is it really noticeable? How much "air" (big a box) will I need for it? What watt size do I need. I heard Sony Xplode's are crap, so what do you recommend, Pioneer? Any help would be appreciated and if you have pictures even better.

Thinking of doing the spot in the back on the side, you all know where I'm talking about. Will that be a big enough box for a good thump? Also do I need to change my radio? I really like the stock one. Trying to do this all for 200 or less.

Thanks, I'll go look at the rest of this section now to get ideas

What kind of music do you listen to (mostly). If you listen to rock, you'd probably just want a 10" sub, if you listen to rap and hip-hop or electronic, you'd probably want a 12". Most likely you'd need to get a new stereo as well. Getting a sub, an amp, some wires and a stereo is gonna be hard to find for $200 or less. How many Watts you'd need depends on the speakers. Remember, a lot of watts doesn't always = the best sound. You should check out Circuit City or Best Buy or Fry's Electronics and have a talk with one of the car stereo specialists there. They can also help you with what you want and need.

When you get your stuff, good luck installing it all.

Thanks hull...I listen to everything. Popular music, some rock, some r&b...but mostly country ( i know don't laugh) I just like something to go bump every once in awhile (that sounded weird).

So mostly popular music and country. So what would be a good watt? 600 peak and 250 or 300 rms? The amp has to be the same as the rms on the sub? Yep I'll definitely try talking to somebody at circuit city. Thanks

So I found a 12 inch kenwood sub, with a 1000wpeak, 2 channelkenwood amp, but its only 170 rms, what exactly does that mean. Can you up the RMS? 170 seems kinda low. he wants 240 for both, but I might offer him 190.

Also 2xx 12's in a box, rockford fosgate and an amp, no other specifications, says make offer.

dont get me wrong kenwoods good and all..but if you can swipe that rockford fosgate do it! those are good speakers in my opinion. most likely the box hes got with it wont fit in ur car. if u listen to country a 12 would be good. 1000watts would almost be perfect for that. but i mean again..depends on speakers and amp and everything else. youre not gonna be able to hook up the amp without a new stereo. stock radios dont have the input/output for the amp. hooking all of it up wont be a problem. i can walk you threw that if you need it. its pretty easy. ive got 2 12's in mine with 3000watts...and believe me if youre listening to country you dont want that much haha.

I would save the $200 and try to get around $500.00.

For 500 I could build You a great system.

Let me ask You a few questions.

SPL or SQ?
How much room are You willing to give up in Your trunk?
Will You be installing it all?
What is Your favorite type of music?
Do You have a stock or aftermarket h.u.?

Answer these few questions and we will move from there.

Oh another note.

Best Buy and Circuit city are garbage retail stores if You are looking for car audio equipment.

Kenwood is garbage.

Rocksford Fosgate is also garbage.

A 10" isn't made solely for rock, and a 12" isn't made solely for rap.

The end.

Want credibility? Who has a sticky at the top of this forum? I do. I know my stuff.

I never said that (but I'm not saying you said I said that), but it's also personal preference. It's just that you don't want too much bass for rock musics.

A well made 10" driver can be made louder than 12".

I don't understand what You mean.

Well then sorry Mr. Expert. However, saying a certain brand is garbage is just personal preference.
