Default Help deciding on audio upgrade path

I am looking to replace the headunit in my 2000 Camaro (Monsoon) with one of two products from Pioneer:
DEH-P77-DH (preferred) or DEH-P47-DH. They are designed to fit the rather large dash opening and I see little difference in the 2 units. Only real difference I see is the 77 has a detachable face and has functioality of an alarm. The 2000 itself has an alarm and keyless entry, just want to make sure that replacing the unit won't make my keyless system and alarm no longer function.

Thanks 4 any advice!

you always have the option of not hooking those things up. the keyless entry doesnt typically run through the head unit, thats just other stuff that would take a more in-depth install.

get the one with the removable faceplate. last thing u need is someone busting ur window to rip that thing out

I have the 77 and it works great. I didn't hook up any of that alarm stuff. My keyless entry and stock alarm work fine.

I hope you know you can get a normal single din unit with a housing unit for you car so it takes up the extra space. I traded my buddy for a Panasonic (i kno i kno Im waiting to get a pioneer) and its a single din an it looks fine ill post a pic tomorrow afta Im outta class.

If he is anything like me, then he likes it better when the radio takes up the entire space. Like for my Mountaineer, I got a double din indash dvd. I'm not a big fan of mounting kits.

Thanks much for the reply. You are correct, I don't like mounting kits. They do the job, but I'd rather not have the unit stick out of the dash by a bit over an inch (at leasts that is what Crutchfield stated for my DIN choice)

Default Decided on Pioneer DEH-P4100UB

After much consideration, I ended up choosing the Pioneer DEH-P4100UB and installed it with a mounting kit - 1/2" kit. This one had all the features I wanted for a price my wife was willing to let me spend ($149). I also upgraded all of the speakers in the car to Pioneer - great deal at Circuit Ciry on the Speakers since they were going out of business. Got the HU at Crutchfield - first one the Left channel was dead for Digital audio out of the box, second one working like a charm! Don't think I am happy with the factory amp - probaby end up bypassing it until I can upgrade the audio system fully.

Thanks to all that had suggestions!
