Default Amp/sub help

i am new to the camaro family and i have a feeling I will be here a long time cause I am really liking my 95.
I am going to wire up 2 12" MTX subs with a 800 watt 2channel amp. I have a stock Bose sound system already in it. Wat is the best way to wire up the subs? and what is 2ohms and 4 ohms, wat is the difference between the two?

Thanks Josh

Default RE: Amp/sub help

Get a line level converter if you are gonna stay with the stock radio.Alot of amps have high level inputs that you can also use.2 or 4 ohm means the impedence of the speakers.Does your application have a stock sub? Also if you do use the line level converter, dont go crazy with the level adjustments.Distortation kills. As far as difference, just the 2 ohm will be a lower load for the amp. Also is your amp stereo,Mono block amp etc? Also what is the ohm load of the amp?Example.. 2 ohm stereo/4 ohm mono. The amps capabilities are very important also.In other words say you have two 2 ohm subs. The only three ways to wire it would be series, parallel or series parallel. If you wired them series parallel, you would have a 4 ohm load.If you wired them parallal you would have a 1 ohm load.SO with that part done and say you amp was 2 ohm stable. You would have to series the subs.Cause if you left them paralled at 1 ohm and the amp is only stable to 2 ohms then 9 times out of 10, the amp would get hot, turn off, blow fuses or all of the above. In some cases it cooks the amp.So it does matter when it comes to ohms.Hopefully this helps.
