Amp Question???
I amgoing to install a stereo systemIam building formy 95 Z-28. I will inlcude links from the Pioneer site for the head unitI bought and the subsI bought. CurrentlyIam going to run one 10 inch Pioneer sub (link below) in the hatch area. As soon asI save enough money,I amgoing to buy another one and another enclosed box and run two subs.I havenice Pioneer 3 ways in the doors and back side panels, all are 6.5 inch. My question is what size ampamIgoing to need to push the subs? And canI wire up one sub now and the other in a month or soI he saves the money?

I'd say a good 1000 watt 2 channel Amplifier should surfice. But don't push it past 1200watts since the Subs can only handle 600watts a peice.
The two channels won't pump the full watts all of the time, but if you want to keep it safe ( and decide to go full blast some day) stay under a 1200 2-channel Amp.
I prefer Legacy Amplifiers, but it's whatever you choose.
My setup in the 84' camaro is a 200watt head unit that goes to a Legacy1800Watt Amp to two Pheonix Digital 12" Subs that can hold 1000watts a peice. Those are also hooked to a 2.5F Capacitor.
They sound good, but Pheonix Digital is not very good. Pioneer though, I hear good things about.
and for the Watts on your amp, depending on your taste of music, or what you want them for, depends on what you should get.
1000watts - Great sound, loud and powerful, strong bass, strong vocals.
1200watts- Same as the 1000, but will pound harder, sound louder, and be over-all better, but not by much. if at all noticable.
Mine

And yes, youshould be able to run just one Sub for now and hook the other up later, just be sure you wire it correctly.

OMGLS1- nice setup
Ryan- You don't need a 1000 watts , those subs only have a 120 RMS, so really a 600 two channel is all you need. or step up to an 800 and keep the boost down. or if you wanna go cheap just bridge a 300.

Thks Guys, I'm going to buy my amp the week after Christmas and was trying to get an idea of what kind i needed. Do you know anything about the Pioneer Amps? What kind of quality are they?
Alright, thks OMGLS1. Right now I'm just looking for a system to get me by until I can raise enough money to get something really good. Being a 16 year old w/ Gas and Insurance isnt easy w/ a part time job.......[sm=smiley20.gif]
Oh contrair. Or however you spell that.... I was in your same position two years ago, but i was fortunate to have a damn good job. So I suggest looking for the best job you can do at your age, then start hauling in the big bucks, I'm actually still with my part time minor job, still affording both cars. Muwahaha 9.33/hour w00t! But i'm quitting. Anyhoo! It is tough, but as soon as you break $1,000 your going to feel like a rich boy.
Don't think to badly about Pioneers. they are great systems, and will probably last you quite awhile. Just don't ever go with JL Audio. Blew one of those things in a couple hours. [

Anyways, I'm rambling, so Good luck, and Good sound. hahaha "That's funny right there...."

OMGLS1- I agree with almost everything you said except about JL Audio, JL Audio is by far one of the best when it comes to subs. Amp wise i dont really know cuz iv never had one. but i have JL w7's in my truck and There's not a better 12 inch sub in my opinion.
Im like you with a job though. im 17 making 10.15 an hour working on baseball fields and basketball courts. got a custom s-10, brand new4wheeler, and 83 Z.
And Pioneer is a good choice!

Well....I'm 16 making $6 an hour working at the golf course, I have my 95 Z28, and a 89 Jeep Wrangler. The wrangler is for sale BTW, but w/ me just getting my license last week its kinda tough getting used to the gas money. I almost have enough to buy my amp, so it should be in next week. I'll post pictures when I get everything up and running.
