Default Amp problem.

Okay, my amp worked perfectly this morning, but when I started it up today in the parking lot, it worked for about 5 seconds, and then the power light on the amp dimmed and the subs were barely working at all, and by barely working, I mean you had to put your finger on them to tell that they were getting any power at all! The radio works just fine, all the electrical systems on the car are good, the radio works just fine, lights/guages, the works. Checked all the connections to the amp, fuses, ground wire, power wire...no avail. The amp is a Kicker ZX550.2, 8 Guage wire running to it that came in a monster kit (supposed to support up to 650W).

Check the remote turn on wire. That could have a fried wire or your radio's circuit might have blown for it. It will still light up a little with just the power and ground some times. Or it could be the amp itself. Use a multimeter to see if you're getting power there.

The remote wire is wired into a toggle switch, and the toggle switch turns the power on/off still, though I haven't checked the fuse on the radio yet...going to do that now!

Edit--

After a 2AM session messing around with it, I now have no power getting to the amp, so the remote wire suggestion is looking promising, I'm going to check all the connections between the switch and amp tommorow when it isn't 27 degrees outside...well, aftermessing with it in my friends garage, we determined that the ground wire wasn't grounded right, itworked for 3 weeks, and all of the sudden quit, I don't understand it, but a newgrounding position works.

Were you pushing the amp hard! right before she quit? might have went into protection mode! if it did kill the pwr to the amp or amps, and they will reset.

also just for G.P. I like to install a circuit breaker on the amp pwr wire! get tired of replacing fuses, you cant melt the wire, or overload it, it will just trip the breaker, and what,s cool is they reset.
