Mpg with oversized tires?
Hello I just bought an 02 camaro with 20's and was wondering what kind of deduction of mpg that will cause. I'm a new camaro driver. Going from an 02 monte Carlo to a camaro. I love the look of this car with the rims so does anyone know how much mpg I'll loose?
Diameter of the wheels has no effect on gas mileage, it's the overall diameter/height of the tire that does. If the tires are relatively the same height as your originals, there will be no noticeable difference. Larger diameter wheels does mean less sidewall on the tire, which also means a little less rolling resistance from tire squish, which also means a little harsher ride for having less cushion between the wheels and the road.

Do your new tires have mis-matched heights front to back, compared to how the old ones were? That can confuse the ABS into thinking a tire is slipping due the them turning the wheel hubs at different speeds.
also if your speedo hasnt been recalibrated for height of the wheels and tires your calculations of miliage are off. Have you checked your speed with a portable GPS to see if your Speedometer is off? not only will it give a false reading of MPH but also show you puttin an incorrect amount of miles on your vehicle.
