I have a 98 v6. Last year all of a sudden both my windows stopped working and wouldnt go up. I let it sit and they would work intermittently. Sometimes they would both go down fine but wouldnt go back up. So I went and replaced both window motors and it seemed to fix the problem. Well, Now the problem is back & Im not happy about this.
Any help on whats causing this intermittent then nothing window problem?
Any solutions to this problem?
Next time I get a camaro
, its going to have crank windows
Any help on whats causing this intermittent then nothing window problem?

i use to have that problem too when it rained a bit or snowed my windows sometimes would not go up must be because of the weather getting in the mechanism and when i bought the car they where both recently fixed, but it only happened once in a while for me. I have a different question whenever i put my window down and then back up it leaves these line marks from the rubber seal that holds the window together can i solve this problem by taking off the door panels and aligning the windows again?

I've had some issues with my windows too, and here's what I found:
1) the previous owner did a poor job installing the motors which caused them to operate at an angle, and this eventually caused them to intermittently bind up and later fail completely;
2) the previous owner had motors from Autozone, which is always a big no-no...I am currently using new (not reman) motors from NAPA which definitely are more powerful than the Autozone ones I replaced;
3) Lubing up the window rollers and guides with a general moly grease helped, especially since my rollers are somewhat bad and some of them aren't rolling at all anymore;
4) The rivets that hold the window regulator to the inner door panel have a habit of coming loose, causing the entire assembly to shift and putting unnecessary stress on the window mechanism; 3 of the 4 rivets can be replaced relatively easily with short bolts;
5) the window switches themselves have a tendency to break internally and go bad. They aren't terribly expensive from the dealer (~$20) and I would experiment with this if one of the switches tends to work better than the other;
6) The electrical connections between the switch and the harness can become corroded and cause a low voltage from reaching the motor. I used battery electrolyte on a q-tip and electrical cleaner to remove the corrosion, which has helped. You could try hooking +12v directly to the motor and seeing if it moves properly - if so, you probably just have a dirty connection. (I would probably try this first to see if its an electrical or mechanical issue)
Our camaros obviously have a less than stellar window and door design - But after doing the above my windows have worked relatively well for about a year and counting.
