Default Wierd Coolant Problem

Hello,
I've had my 1999 V6 Camaro for nearly 9 months now, and I put her in the garage for the winter. Word of wisdom- Never buy a ford taurus. Maybe it's just mine, but this thing is a pain. I took my Camaro out for a work project and got it running up to normal temperature. Playing around with things, I noticed I was getting NO HEAT from the defroster/heater. So maybe someone here can help. Now would probably be the best time to do work.

This problem has been going on since I bought the car. Coolant seems to find its way out of the engine. Where? I don't know. There are no funny smells from the exhaust at start up or during operation. What I did notice was that there was a lot of "smoke" coming out of the exhaust for quite a while, but I've been told that's because the exhaust was cold. Also, after sitting for a while, water leaked out of a hole in the muffler. The smoke that came out smelled like steam and exhaust fumes.

I did take it to my garage during summer, and he showed my how the thermostat was very dry & rusted, and he repaced it. Problem went away for a while.

My only thought now is maybe the heater core is leaking? I was worried the most about it being a leak in the engine, but my mechanic told me it wasn't.

I really wanna get this problem fixed, as I am debating doing some modding to the engine come spring. So I want everything to be 100% before hand.

Thanks for any help,
Brooks
