both can make a grinding noise. can also squeal. drive shaft will vibrate and youll feel it at the seat of pants or shifter. wheel bearing/hub can also vibrate and for front bearings should feel it at the steering wheel. failing front wheel bearing can also cause the steering to pull to one side. rear bearings can whine and grind as well and noise can change when cornering.

You can also lift the wheels off the ground, grab the tire top and bottom and try shaking it in & out. There should be no movement.

Does your car have a manual transmission?
Starting in 1998 (your year), V6 models with an automatic trans got a one piece driveshaft.
In 1999, all the V6 models got the one piece shaft.

I just finished replacing both front this morning. Not a bad job at all. Like mentioned above grab wheel at 12 and 6 should be no play. FYI torque for bolts was 63lbs

i would look at the transmission mount or carrier bearing if you have a two piece driveshaft. trans mount is easy if its busted, if carrier is toast pick up a one piece drive shaft from any 86?-02 camaro, it is direct fit

check your brake pads to make sure there not somethin goin on there. have you found a one piece yet? aluminum would be good if you got lucky and found one.

Not all v6's got the one piece DS, it was dropped after 99 due to customer complaints.
