a bunch of people have been askin if my RS has a Y87 package.... What is it,,, and how do i know if i have it?

 

Y87 = 3800 V6 Performance Package

Auburn or Zexel Torsen Limited Slip Differential
3.42 gears Auto/3.23 gears Standard
14.4:1 Sport Steering (same as Z28)
Four-Wheel Disc Brakes

 

doesnt the y87 have dual muffler outlets too, or am I just thinking that?

i have a 00 maro rs and mine dont have the dual muffler outlets just one, had my vin ran by the chevy place here and they told me that mine was a rs,

 

RPO Y87 for a 97 RS was the 'Performance handling package' (L36 V6 only) It included; 4 wheel disk brakes, limited slip rear axle, quicker steering ratio (14.4:1) and dual muffler outlets.

 

I have a 96 rs and the guy i bought it from thought it had limited slip in the rear. It does have all disk brakes. And im not sure about the steering and gearing, its kinda hard to tell. But it dosent have dual exhaust. I was sure it had the Y87 package, since it had the brakes and i'm about positive on the limited slip. Dont most camaros have drums in the back? Is there somewhere on the car that will tell me it has the package? Thanks

 

yeah, i think all non y87 PRE-98 v6's had drums in the back.. maybe the new ones too, but all the one's I've seen have disc in front and back.. Did they make Y87s that werent RS's in 98? I know someone that has a 98 v6 that isnt an rs, and it has dual outlets and I think limited slip but im not sure.

 

well when i bought mine, it had dual exhuast, it may have been put on after, but i have all 4 disc brakes, dunno about the steering or gears

 

easiest way to see if its a Y87...is find the Y87 on the door tag

or G80 = LSD

and yes...there were non RS Y87 cars and RS cars that weren't Y87
