Default v8 swap

i have read through a few pages of the forums but never found anything talkin about the motor mounts on a v6. would a person have to change the the mounts to put the v8 in a v6 or can they stay the same to just bolt in the new motor.

Go to a parts store & see what the part number is for the V6 and the V8 maounts are. If the part numbers are different, then the mounts are different. If you intend to do an engine swap, you need to do some digging on your own.

Well, at least for 4th Gen cars, you have to change the k-member, which is engine specific, so it IS necessary to change the mounts.

An LT1 is not meission legal anywhere, techinically, so LS1 it is for you, mainly becuse it's a factory option for a 98 model F-body...that's always a help.

Everything you mentioned needs changing. No doubts there.

98 v6 cars had discs on the rear and twin cooling fans, so those can stay. Same with the gauge cluster, too, I believe.

An LT1 is not emission legal anywhere? Is that because he is putting an older engine into his car? I think some where I herd you could only put in your year engine or newer is that correct?

You can put a newer engine in an older cas long as it meets all emission parameters for the newer engine. An older engine in a newer car is not allowed without EPA certification, even if it meets the emission parameters of the newer car.

so this would be a bigger mess than i thought originally.. the motor mount changing is a job in its self.. i think i might be buying a 93-94 LT1 6speed so i can just change out the motor with one of lower miles and do mods to it while the motor is out

Hey, I'm all for an LT1, mainly since that's a 95 model factory option and would be an easier swap for my car, but there is no way I go for an LT1 in your case when an LS1 would be a relative drop-in swap. You're up for a lot of harness splicing for get an LT1 in an LS1-era car.

Also, what I mentioned about legality was picked up on correctly...an older model engine in a car isn't legal and if you['ve got emissions or visual inspection, that opti-spark will stick out like a sore thumb...and fail you.
