I'm doing the LT1 because it is a drop-in swap and a 1995 factory option. Knowing that, the LS1 does take (in general) a lot of the same swap parts to work that an LS1 does, but I can find a complete LT1 pullout drivetrain for what an LS1 engine alone costs. I'm on a budget, too.
It is tempting , though, since I wouldn't have to deal with an opti-spark, but an LS1 is too tall to be a drop-in swap...
Of course, some will suggest just buying what you want in the first place, rather than pulling a swap. I only have $200 and some accessories in my car, so try finding a working LT1 car for that much. It won't happen.
