Manuals are lighter too. They have different rates of weight transfering too. So if you give two IDENTICAL I mean Identical in every fesable way on IDENTICAL launch surface yes the stick would be faster. It has a lower co-efficient of friction internally. There is less parasitic loss since it doesn't have a pump either. The hard part is dropping the clutch at just the RPM w/o spinning the tires too much and to get it to actually spin.
For the later model camaros, especially the Z28 and SS's, yes, the autos are quicker off the line. Like stated above, the driver makes a drastic difference. But if you put to drivers of the same skill level (assuming their not professional, lol) then yeah, the autos have a very small advantage.
All things being equal automatics will get the jump on a stick off the line. However, the automatics sop up a lot of power and the stick car usually catches up near the finish line. If you got power to spare, the automatic is more consistent and probably a better choice, but again, a lot depends on the driver.
