The shift indicator shows park but my car starts in reverse. I just bought the car and am at a loss for a solution. The car is a 1995 v6 3.4 liter with an Automatic. Can anyone help?

Ignore it, or take apart the console and fix it. I would ignore it.

 

I had the exact same problem on my '95, and it will only get worse for you. As I recall it is the shifter linkage -- yes the console needs to come apart to fix it, but it is not too involved of a job -- unfortunately for me -- it happened out of state while traveling for work, so I had to pay a shop for it to be done -- which of course was like highway robbery... :-(
