Tranny popping out of reverse
#13
Update. My tranny is now at the shop being rebuilt this week. The reverse linkage and other parts are being replaced with those out of a 97 Camaro T5. There's not alot to these transmissions when you take them apart. And, it takes 2 hours to take one out of the car with taking the center console out. You can't do this alone so make sure you have a buddy with you! If you do end up getting a used tranny, try to get one from a 96+.

I was doing some research for Caotic about the transmissions... I found that there is an external difference between the 3.4 and 3.8L transmissions that make them incompatable. The internals are the same as far as syncros and bearings but there is something about either the mounts or input shafts that are different. I did notice that the pilot bearings come in 2 sizes for the 3.8L trans and only one for the 3.4L One of the 3.8L pilot bearings is the same as a 3.4L bearing... So not sure how the 3.8's trans will work with the 3.4L engine.
If anyone here knows if they will swap over and what is needed please post it so we can all know.

Nope. The input shaft is a different size on the 3.8 tranny. Already tried it. Believe me. It's a no go. The ONLY tranny that you can put in your car or replace parts from is another Camaro/Firebird 3.4 tranny.

I heard back from my tranny guy. He said there are teeth missing in the reverse gear, so I need a new reverse geat set. There was also alot of clutch dust. Seems the shop that put in my new clutch didn't clean it out at all! Nice! My old clutch was slipping so bad that dust was one of my concerns, but I thought the shop would clean it out.
