Default Tranny Fluid Change

I kno on my old 5speed honda when I changed the manual tranny fluid, the car shifted a lot smoother.

My car (2000 Camaro V6 3.8) probally has never had it done, so I am wanting to do it. I plan to do it myself, since I work at a local Express Lube.

Anyways, any info on doing it arond here? I searched and couldnt find much. How much does it hold? And what type should I use? I dunno fi you can use a Tranny Tech machine on it but I may if I can, since we have one at work.

Ill probally just drain and fill though, I kno I wont get all the old fluid out, but it wont hurt. The car shifts smooth as hell and gives me no problems, so I am going to change it and try and keep it that way. So like I said, how many quarts does it hold and what type? Thanks!

I am assuming since you were going to use the tranny tech machine on it you are talking about an automatic.
Is your fluid dark and/or smell burnt? If it is your screwed!.If not drop the pan and do the filter (dont just suck the fluid out through the dipstick tube) and it should hold 5 quarts of atf

Do you have a stick? If so, it takes a synchromesh fluid and takes just over 3 quarts.

Yeah, they put 2 different trans in that year. So it's either a New Venture T350 or a T5.
So you got a couple different requirements for each trans and I'm not 100% sure which part number you need.
• GM 12345349 or 12345577
• GM 12377916
• GM 1052931

So if you want, and what I recomend is using AMSOIL cuz it covers all those part numbers.

I have the New Venture T350 in my truck and it's equivalant to GM's 12377016 Synchromesh fluid.

I agree with the Amsoil, great products, been using theirstuff since day 1 in my '01. When I had to replace the oil pan at 96 k, I couldn't believe how clean the insides were, and I do 25K oil changes too.

They're good people to talk to too. Won't steer you wrong just to make a sale.

I can agree to that. Thier motorcycle oil is the automotive. Just relabeled. I got that striaght from an amsoil rep. Unfortunatly for people that dont know, they spend morethinking they are getting amotorcycle blend, due to Amsoils label.

I don't know about that. May start off as the same base stock and be OK in a Hog, but when you talk about high reving small engines with wet clutches and common oiling between engine and trans parts, the oil comes under different loads then you find in auto use. Castroil is now using the 'shear' word as a major hype point, but shear is a big factor in motorcycle oil failure (from the trans gears meshing then pulling apart). Along with foaming ... then the friction modifiers needed to keep the clutch plates from failing.

When you see that rep again, ask to see the spec sheets for both. I'll bet there is a difference.

I actually just got my 02' a tranny change yesterday, it AMAZES the hell out of me how much of a difference it made... I don't think it's ever been done before I bought the car.
