Default top speed trouble

Hi does anyone have any idea if the 3.8 is restricted at all with a speed limiter?? From what ive read the 3.8 should do around 120 mph or so but mine really struggles to top 95mph.
Does anyone else have this problem??? and if so did you find out what caused it??
For example power loss for some reason, clutch slip etc as im sure a car with 200bhp or near enough and 225 ft/lbs torque should do more.
Ive heard that some were limited is this true and if so which ones.
Thanks.

I have pinned my 3.8 with no issues. I actually didnt know there was a speed limiter. I knew about the rev limiter. That doesnt really help I know but I just figured I through in my 2 cents

I think I read it is set to 121 on the base model. Max speed is base on the tire the car was sold with. I had mine to 100 and she would love to go faster.

You would know if you were hitting the speed limiter. It's almost like the car was thrown into neutral. 97 blazers are set to 100 and yep, I hit it

Limiter is set at 115mph. 184kmh. I've bounced off the limiter many times in my camaro. Haven't had a chance with the new rear end tho. I think the rev limiter Is 6200rpm. I've hit that a few times and it scared the $h1t out of me.

i must have a problem with my car then as i cant get anywere near 115 or 120. wont do much more than 90 mph with 95mph being the most ive got on a flat motorway stretch with my foot pinned to the floor. Its currently off the road having a tidy up and polybush kit and a military themed respray in nato green so once all that is done i will have to get it on a dyno to check if its healthy or not. Thanks for the advice guys

was just curious when i bought it what the top speed was. always do it when i get a new car cant resist but i was really surprised when a car with 200bhp wont even top 95mph. my partners 1.2L 70bhp ford fiesta did 115mph. And a work colleagues mk5 vw golf gti with 200bhp does 145mph. I think something is really wrong there. Why is the camaro so slow??

Well remember the 3.8 engine is at least ten years old so it has some wear and rare on it. The fiesta is a practically a new car and same goes for the gti.

Any chance that a previous owner changed the rear gears? Do your local constables in the UK use radar? One of them may eventually stop you to tell if your speedo is accurate or not.
