A flashing SES indicates a misfire or condition that could rapidly and severely damage the catalytic converter.

Yes.

Don't know if this will help, but on a long road trip I noticed a slight hesitation on acceleration. Then the ses light came on. To shorten this up, the car finallyran rough and set a code. It was misfire cyl 1. Turned out to be a bad spark plug wire, and replacing it solved the problem. BUT, in checking things over we heard this very distinct clicking noise, which was the spark discharge from the bad wire right at the coil for cyl 1. Quite loud with the engine in idle and the hood up, but not something someone on the street would notice as you frove by.

check and see if your plug wires are on good
i had a clicking noise and it was because a wire was loose from a plug

A good way to find out if your wires are arking out is to at night with no lights on. Take a spray bottle full of water, spray a mist over the engine compartment and you will find the arking wire by seeing a spark.
