Default Tach not working...please help!!!

I have a 1998 RS with the 3.8L. The tach wasn't working when i baught the car so i have no idea how long it has been broken. Its wierd though, the tach will move to about 1000rpm's when the car is firing up, but then it goes back to not working. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Also the gas guage is constantly reading full, until i get about 180 miles on a tank then it starts to drop, again i am baffled. Please help, thanx.

well as far as the gas gauge, if your tach isnt working it might be a wiring problem for both but, if the wirings not an issue with the gas then your sending unit is fried. The tank would have to be dropped out and the unit replaced (not cheap, believe me i looked into it for mine). as far as the tach, there was a topic alittle while ago, it might of been about replacing it but go through the last two or so pages and you should find it. sorry not much help, hope someone else does better than me haha.

The tach is driven by the ignition module. Try a quick fix, pull all the low votage connectors at the ignition module/coil pack and clean the connectors out with contact cleaner & put them back. If the tach now works you fixed the problem, if not you probably have a wiring issue.
