Suspicious '96 V-6
I really want to hear expert as well as novice opinions on my strange car. I bought a used '96 base Camaro in December 1996. Soon thereafter I took it to a dealership (owned by a family friend) for something minor, and the first thing the tech said when he opened the door was "what did you do to this thing?"
He went on to explain that the power windows and door locks were aftermarket. So, we ran the VIN through the dealership's computer, and it showed that the car was purchased new, by a private individual for personal use, at a dealership in Los Angeles, and it had an in-service (warranty) date of December 1995. The car then showed-up at a Pontiac dealership in Pontiac, MI., around September of '96. The car sat for almost 2 months - I drove by it everyday to and from work - until December, when I bought it. (It may have sat there because it's PURPLE - but it really looked sharp - it's EXACTLY the same color purple they used on the '96 Prowler when it came out.) It had just over 9k miles when I bought it, and the title showed the original purchaser, then the dealer as the only two owners.
I guess my question is why would someone buy or GM make a car like this. It's a 3.8, air conditioned, with leather and t-tops - the two most expensive options - but it has a manual transmission, no power windows or locks, an aftermarket radio, a "MOMO" shifter or just shifter ****, and NO other options that I can see. And, most curiously, EVERY document I've seen - like the Carfax free report, the title, and my insurance card always refers to it as "Camaro/RS"
Stranger still, it has absolutely no "RS" features, but it does have factory original Z-28 wheels and tires. I've had the car for going on 11 years now and driven it every day and it's been rock solid reliable - But WTF!

the previous owner probably converted to power window/ locks , its not that hard to do. as for the vin saying its an RS i have herd of them with no badging, no GFX no tags but better suspension.
they probably didnt want to spend the extra money on the gfx, and didnt want to advertise it was an RS.

all v6 camaro coupes come up as Camaro/RS meaning "camaro" or "camaro RS" when you look them up on carfax. carfax doesnt specify between the two models. ALL RS models from 96-97 include the RS emblems and the ground effects.
