Default Supercharger

I have a 1999 V6 auto and was wondering if it's possible or even worth it to super/turbo charge it. It's my first car and 200 horsepower isn't quite cutting it.

Possible yes worth it, no. Guys do it but you have to really be inlove with the 3.8 to do it. Figure a super charger/Turbo will cost $2500 min. If you did boost your car at about 280HP the tranny and the rear would be at risk. So you car is worth 4K now (just a guess) and you will need $2500 to add the turbo and you will still top out at 280hp unless you spend more money to beef up your drive line.
Sell your car for 4K add the $2500 to it and pick up a LS1. Bone stock it will have more HP and way more torque then the turbo V6.

Simple answer? No. It will cost much more money just to turbo your car than it will to sell it and buy a Z28. Most people turbo their car to make a statement

I'm going this direction as well. I've mapped out what it will cost, and no it's not cheap, but its the challenge involved in doing it. To do a supercharger, you have to get a lot of stuff fabricated, and takes some backyard engineering to do it. A turbocharger is a little easier, all things being relative. I agree that its more of a statement thing than anything else. My plans for my next Camaro are going to involve an LS7 or an LS9, and I look at any engine work and mods I do now as simply practice and preparation for the next vehicle. For a supercharger, you aren't looking at just the cost of the driveline and supercharger either. You literally have to drop the engine, swap the rods out, the lifters out, and basically convert the inside to an L67, which has lower compression and is essentially what is in a Grand Prix, but with a flywheel going to the rear axle in it. If you can find a 'cheap' supercharger, you are still looking at $1000 and more just internally on the engine. As stated above, if the car is worth $4000, you'll double the cost adding a supercharger or a turbo.

If 200 HP is a problem, 205hp from a 93 V8 GT is not the answer.

Do you think turbo charging it would be less expensive becase buying a new car can't happen until college loans are paid.

Then don't plan on a turbo build either... You're looking at 4-5 grand to do either set up... Meaning... Get that 5 grand... Sell car for 4... Buy nice *** Z28... 350 hp ta da!
