Default stratus outwingzings camaro

yea...the subject name is basically to attract post...bust basically my comment is this. I just got my first camaro (2001 v6) and my previous car was a dodge stratus (v6 2.5 liter 160 hp about) and while my camaro is faster in all aspects on paper...i cant help but notice my stratus felt faster. Its mostly due to revs....the stratus lit up past 5 grand...it would make a jet engine whirring noise which would put a smile on everyones face..and while it wasnt entirely fast on paper...it just felt it..... now with my camaro i notice its got a hell of a grunt off the bat (for a v6)but it seems once it gets up to bout 60mph it tapers off power wise in high revs. Is this due to the restrictive exhaust and such?? It just feels like my engine is bound by some kind of chain that wont let it loose....

p.s. stratus's suck

Its a V6, what do you expect. A 327 V8 is a good engine to keep reving at 5000 RPM'S. Do you know where , on the rpm vs hp rating matrix your engine falls into. Probably around 3500 to 4000 (might be less) rpm's after that you have reached the 'terminal velocity' (for lack of a better or correct term) of the motor and the hp either stays where it is or dies down. What is the reason you no longer have the dodge? Was it a mechanical problem, blown head gasket? oil leaks? this will happen to engines that rev too high (5000 rpm) for extended periods of time. Good choice of car BTW, nice to see more people coming to the varsity team. Welcome.

Well i realize that its a mear v6 but i feel its more so unleashed potential seeing as the car is bone stock...im kind of curious if headers/exhaust and cold air will give it a more free spirit. Im not a drag racer but i like to get everything that is due to meou know. My girlfriend has a gtcruiser(turbo) and as gay as the car is i couldnt help but be suprised by its eagerness to move...just touching the gas from a go and the front will let lose.... yet the hp/tq rating is only 20 or so higher than my camaro.. yet i know there is more involved with response and power than the hp/tq rating shows ....but basically if i could get close to that with exhaust and intake mods than that would hold me over quite well until i get my hands on the new camaro :P

chrysler blows imo

but yea, butt-dyno's aren't accurate...if a car 'feels' faster you have to look at the suspension other ride features...

I have driven the stratus, and intrepid. I agree with badinfluence, the 'but-dyno' thing is real, it feels faster due to the suspension. Stratus is lower and has tighter handling, as with the gt. So it seems faster, kind of like a cart. Camaros are made to go faster than it feels. To answer your question, yes. Those mods are just the beggining. You will feel the difference there as well. CAI's and headers are the least invasive on the motor.

I have to say that I feel somewhat the same way, my previous car was a Cavalier Z24 that I had exactly the way I wanted it (Supercharger, tight suspension, etc). Great fun until it met a bigger vehicle one morning.

The Camaro has a LOT more grunt in the bottom end, but peters out in the upper RPMs. About what I would expect from a larger displacement 6.

It's just a different car, I'm going to have to get used to it. I like it a lot, it's jut not the same. (3500 lb. Torque monster vs. 2600 lb supercharged Quad 4 screamer)

Well i think alot of the feel is due to the stock exhaust....mine even at full throttle is hardly noticable other than a crisp hum...im thinking with headers and an exhaust, not only will i hear the exhaust but the headers should make the engine tunes alittle sweeter too.
