Default Security Warning Light

Hello all Camaro Gurus...

Just a quick question, I have had the 'security' light on my Camaro for some time and would like to fix that problem.

My first question is why would the light be on? I have no security system in my car and my engine starts fine with my keys.. A few years back I did get a new key code when my starter went out I think... just curious to this diagnostic.

As for fixing the situation for now, could I pull a fuse that that is in the driver side panel?

Let me know with any suggestions, thank you all..

Best thing to do is bring your car to gm and get the to reprogram your key for the security.

Any GM Dealership... and I assume there would be a cost for that favor?

Thanks for the fast response.

Ya any dealer. Sadly there's always a price to pay. Just give them your vin and have them check your key to make sure it's the right diode in it.

Your security light can come on for a few reasons. Like 3800 said, bad programing. Your VATS could be bypassed. Those are the most common issues. If you got a new key with a different chip then you should not be able to start the car unless the system has been bypassed.

What year is the car? I have schematics for a 2000 Camaro that I could send you. I found that my 99 is very close to the 2000 as far as wiring goes and I dont think there were too many changes between 2000-2002. I know that the 93,94,95,96,97, and 98 are all almost totally different from one and another.

unfortunately, it's a 97 Camaro. I will def go an check it out at the dealership or at least get an answer on cost.

But there isn't a security fuse I could just pull to lessen the annoyance?

Thanks for all the help...
