So from what i hear, it's not uncommon to get25 or more mpg withe our cars, but i seem to be getting just shy of 20..and im horrible at math so lord knows i may be off lol..but I am pretty sure these have 16.5 gallon tanks and i can barely squeeze 320 out of it..fuel filter is fairly new, new tires, plugs and wires are under 3k miles..only think that needs some attention is the air filter, but i didnt think it would make such a drastic change. Its pretty much a bone stock 2000 and i generally keep my foot out of the gas, so if im doing the math wrong or you have any ideas it't be great to fix it haha.

 

O2 sensors make a huge difference. And my car will run another 40-50 miles once it hits empty lol. Fill your car COMPLETELY full. Reset your trip meter. Drive it and then fill it up again when you get close to empty. Divide the miles on your trip meter by the number of gallons it takes to fill up. It would be wise to do it at the same station because some fill up more than others.

If you drive in town, 19-22 sounds about right tbh lol. Highway will be closer to 25-28 depending how long you drive on the highway

 

Well, a 2000 is rated at about 19 city/30 highway. Mine is a 3800 '98 and it's rated at 17 city/30 highway, which is what I pretty much end up getting. I do more 'city' driving than highway. My highest tank mileage was 280, I also haven't replaced a lot of parts yet. It depends on what kind of driving you do, but yours doesn't seem that off from the norm. I dip into the gas a little though. But it really doesn't make a huge difference every once and awhile.

 

My car gets the same mileage no matter if I baby it or not. 21 mpg. I get around 23-24 on the highway if I just drive on it a little, 26-27 if I'm on it for more than 30 mins. I have 3.42 gears though so that plays a little diff in my mileage compared to others.

 

I agree that sounds about right for city driving, but highway you should be getting more. You didnt specify which you were doing.

 

now that makes me wonder. 95% of my driving is highway driving for atleast 40min one way twice a day minimum, and the highest I've ever gotten before hitting empty is the low 230's (that's when I get paranoid and fill up). In my '94 z28 is that common?? havent really looked at the air filter or anything like that but 230 seems pretty low to me and with spending out the *** in 93 octane I'd like to get my mpg as high as possible lol

 

Even with your 350 you should be getting 300 or better on a tank on the highway...

 

Bah so i didnt..thought i did..85-95% is highway..most in town driving is done only to get OUT of town..lol

 

Yea i have a friend who has a 92 rs that the guy he bought it off of put a 400 in and it gets around 23-25 mpg with a mix of in town and highway

 

96 with the 3.8L; I get about 19 in the city. I haven't driven enough highway to figure out what it gets there. This is super low for me because I'm used to driving my Saturn, which gets 28 to 30 in the city and 35 to 40 highway.

I've been told that I need to reprogram my ECM/PCM to get better gas mileage. Anybody have thoughts on that?
