starter barely touching the flywheel can make a noise like that. might check any reluctor wheel sensors to see if one is rubbing. finding a noise in the back i have jacked the car up put jack stands under with backup support then run the car in gear.

pull the starter out and look at the of the gear/shaft for any sign of it hitting the flywheel. also look at the flywheel at the gears to see if it looks scarred.

the sound seems to high revving to be a wheel or drive shaft issue. i would look at the alternator, a/c, power steering pump. it sounds like its from something that is geared up to turn more rpms than the motor and the alternator is geared up the most. starter rubbing can be deceiving to sound like its turning faster than it is. so look at it as well. only other thing i can think of would be the trans pump. i dont think thats something you want to get into without looking elsewhere at less costly causes. have you checked all fluid levels. rearend, trans, power steering. could take belt off and from a cold start make a quick run up to speed to see if it goes away.

I changed the alternator, the tensioner, and the power steering pump and pulley. I changed the tranny filter about two months before the sound started. The rear needed fluid and I put a bottle in about two months ago but I am going to open the rear and clean out and see if the fluid is shiny.

Mvermind about when the sound is made. I put the transmission into regular drive and it made the sound well into the 3000 RPM range

I was going to try and get under the car today but it's way too hot. I am
Going to try and look under it at work and at least check out the drive shafting checked the driver side wheel bearing and it seemed just fine. I took the brakes off and it spun without a sound. I'm going to call my mechanic probably tomorrow and set up an appointment and have them check out the transmission. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts by all means let me know
