Could the power steering pump on a 2000 3.8 make a whining noise? It sounds like its coming from my gears and man is it loud! People can hear it clear down the street. I went to the gas station the other day and some guy asked me when the last time ive had it changed. I said never and that its made that niose since ive had it and he said i needed a new one.

 

It can make a whining noise, especially if cold or little/no fluid in reservoir. Check level.
