Default please help my exhaust headers are glowing hot

hi, i have a 94 3.4 sfi camaro. i recently brought it to a shop to get an intake manifold oil leak fixed which they did. however when i brought it back home i noticed my headers on both sides were glowing BRIGHT red so i brought it back and they cant figure it out. they have checked the fuel pressure, exhaust, intake leaks, vacuum leaks, new map sensor, checked oxygen sensors and ran a diagnostic program throught the cars compouter and they still cant figure it out it must be running too lean or rich but we cant figure out why? i would b very thankful for any ideas. thank you in advance.
Chris

rich would actually cool it off. lean would cause it to heat up

Mmm... Last I checked... Rich = More fuel... Unburnt fuel + Hot exhaust mani = AFTERBURN YAY!

True for the cat back, cause the extra exhaust is burned in the Cat. But in the cylinders and the headers lean can greatly increases the temps. Too much timing, too lean or a partially pluged Cat could cause the issue. Too lean should set a code if the O2 sensors are working correctly. Too much carbon build up could cause and issue but that would be pretty rare. If the car is not spark knocking I would check the back pressure of the exhaust.

Lean mixture. (lean mixture will cause excessive exhaust heat, lean fuel mix burns slower and is still burning when exhaust valve opens)
Retarded timing (Fuel still burning when exhaust valve opens)
Camshaft out of phase (Valves opening while combustion is still in progress)
Excessive air getting in exhaust system (check AIR pump)
Also, steel headers can absorb less heat than cast exhaust manifolds, and have a tendency to glow in the dark, especially under heavy load

Do you actually have a cat? Maybe you should have gotten coated headers -- what brand do you have? Seriously though, any codes? Are you misfiring? How many miles ago were plugs/wires last changed?

yes there is a high flow cat that i put on about a year ago and it is working properly and coated headers would just mask the problem not fix it and everything on the engine is stock except for air filter and other replacement parts from regular maintenance, plugs were changed about 15k miles ago and no misfiring at all the engine runs beautifully
