Default PASS Key Problems. HELP!

I know I have seen some stuff on here before about the security system and PASS Key but I don't seem to be able to find it by searching. Here is the deal. Replaced engine, key started car 5 or 6 times. Test drive to nearby gas station, key will not turn starter. Security light is energized. Sit there a few minutes, still no go. Call my son to help push car out of way. The minute I hang up the phone, I turn the key and it starts. I drove it to the garage and parked it. Shut it down and it hasn't started since. Considering the Security light stays on, I am assuming it is something to do with the key. Any suggestions.

Thanks,
osduck6 (frustrated osduck5)

No but I did ohm the key with a meter and first couple times, it read zero on the meter. I pressed on the resistor in the key and finally got a reading on it. Stopped by Chevy dealer and had a key made. Guy in the shop said he could not get a reading from it the first time he tried. Made a new key and it starts every time. Luckily I had my registration for the car with me. Had to show that for proof of ownership for the key.
