Default over heating problem?

I noticed that my 1997 3.8L camaro was running hotter the usual the other day so i took it home and checked my coolant levels. They were a little low so i added more coolant. The next day on my way to work it was a little bit better but was still running hotter than it normally does. I stopped and had my car in park, still running and in the matter of a couple minutes the temp rose almost to the red. i figured it was my thremostat so i replaced that and i flushed the cooling system. When i was driving it after i replaced the thermostat and flushed the cooling system to see what the temp would do it was right around 180 but when i got home and let it sit it jumped up to almost the red again. anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?

fan should come on before it get really hot. clean or change the temp sensor should be in the head, front driver side i think. not the temp gage sensor should be in the intake manifold. is it running ok?

It runs allright I guess I need to change the plugs and wires and it has a slight knock when it idles but it has done that for the past 2 years/50000 miles

no there aren't any leaks but while i was driving it today it was still getting hot but on my way home i turned on the A/C for a couple minutes and the temp started to go down. once i got home i let it sit for awhile with the A/C off to see if it would get hot again and it did but it took alot longer today than it did yesterday to get really hot?

I had an "overheating" issue today too. I was in stop and go traffic and it never rose above the 1/2 way notch, but the car usually operates at the first notch on the gauge. I couldn't hear the fan, but I'm not sure what it would sound like anyways.

im thinkin your fans are not coming on. could be the temp sensor or the fan relay. relay is in the elecrical box under the hood., black box. not sure if u have two fans but if u do there will be two relays.

i'm with craby on the fans not working with the a/c off. the fans will kick on when you turn the a/c on which is why it's cooling back down.
