Default Omg My Rear!

i blew out my rear end a couple of days ago and my mechanic says it's gonna cost around 1000, how hard is it to pull the rear end and fix it... (driveway mechanic work) =P any tips? I'm very handy with cars so i can probably do it just wondering how hard exactly it's gonna be without a lift.

As long as you didnt hurt the actually axle tubes or the diff housing you could probably just get a new differentail unit or pull one out of a junk yard and DIY it for 300 bucks or so.

it may be easier to change the whole thing and its really not that hard. not easy either. im not much for replacing the thrird member in these rear ends. dont like adjusting the bearings. not one of my strong points. not saying doing the seals is a bad idea for u. cracked housing or bad seals? are the gears ok or is that whats going?

You can pick up a nice posi rears and upgrade to disk brake (assuming you don't have them already) all for about 300 (at least around me) plus the cost of the new bushings. I am planning the upgrade for mine and my rear is fine.

go for it, but if you have some jackstands and an afternoon I'd say do it in the driveway.
