Default Oil Purge...

anyone ever have this happen? I went out to check my car this afternoon because it acted like the battery was dieing this morning. I checked under the car because there was something shiny under but it was nothing... so I turned the car on, started up fine. a few seconds later the oil pressure dropped to zero. I turned it off, checked under the hood... every bit of oil was on the ground or in the engine compartment. haha if that wasn't bad enough it started raining so I cant do anything with it right now...

lil history... its a 2000 3.8 with about 85,000 miles on it. had it a couple months and haven't had any issues. had the oil changed about a month ago and even the mech said it was a very clean car.

any suggestions as to what it could be?

"very clean car" usually pertains to the outside

my guess is that the oil plug in the pan came out and hopefully you shut the car off asap otherwise you will have to get a new engine

This may sound stupid but check the oil filter first. When was the last time you had the oil changed? I change oil for a living and if the filter isnt on or if there is a defect with the filter that is what generally happens.

we the mech said it had been taken care off under the hood pretty well too. all the maint was done at the dealership haha.

I checked the pan plug... its too far back to cause this mess.

I did shut it off immed... I dont think there was any damage done. I did notice the oil filter didnt look quiet right, the rubber gasket was out a lil more on one side. I would have thought it might leak or something but to purge like that after a month?

most likely it was the oil filter, its pretty much the oil way it would happen, and if you lost a lot of oil, there will be damage, trust me.

the engine was only running for maybe 15 or 20 seconds... I was basically turning it over to make sure battery wasn't dead... when I noticed the oil pressure was nothing I turned it off.

welp it wasn't the filter... I replaced the filter and the oil... fired it up and the pressure was over 120 and didn't go down after a few seconds... I shut her down pretty quick. any suggestions?
