Default Oil Pressure

What would cause my Oil Pressure Sending Unit to blow out at the top? Whenever my maro is started cold, its usually at the 80 mark and when driving it drops to about 40-60.

Ouch! put a mechanical pressure guage on it to see what the true reading is. I think there is a oil pressure relief valvu/spring that can sometimes get stuck or you could have possibly bought a defective one.

what kind of oil filter are you using. 80 is as high as the gage goes so it could be more. i would think a sensor would be good to a fairly high psi so im thinking it would take more than 80 psi to blow out the top. someone could have put the wrong spring in the oil pump or you could have some kind of blockage in the oil system

has the pressure always been that high? a spun bearing can make the pressure spike but engine failure will follow.

Yah, it's always been like that. After letting it warm up a bit, it drops to mid gauge.

hopefully you got a bad sensor. it would be best to do like duck says and hook up a mechanical gage to it and check to see where its at.
