Oil leak-- Help!

Oil leak-- Help!
Hey I'm looking to buy a camaro and I found this one for cheap but it does have a small oil leak. My father checked it out and jacked it up to try to find where the leak was, the problem is its really difficult to find and it wouldn't leak for us when we wanted it to. What are the most possible problems it could be? Could it be the valve cover? And if it was, would you have to take the motor out to get to it? Please post with help!!! I really like this car.

RE: Oil leak-- Help!
Sounds to me like valve cover and pan possibley also. I had a similar probel and it really looked like a rear main seal and also intake manifold gaskets. I had a bottle of ultraviloet chemical put in the oil. Drove it for a day and then got it up on a lift. The ultraviolate lite was put on it and clearly showed valve covers and oil pan. It's worth it. Takes all the guess work out it.

my dad looked at it though and hes real good with cars he said its defintely not the oil pan but that the oil pan was hit by like a rock and there is a dent in it. so you think its nothing major then???

your actually better off if it's just the oil pan gasketbecause if it's either a head gasket or the rear main seal then well good luck rebuilding the motor (thats if you really want the leak fixed) but i had my 96 3.8 brought up to Lou Fusz Chevrolet to get my leak checked out and they said it looks like it's leaking out of the rear main seal, one of the heads, and the oil pan gasket soi just ran through that ultraviolet chemical that they were talking about and i'll post as soon as i find out where mine is actually leaking at
