Default Octane

I was wondering if my 99 3.8 could safely run 98 octane gas? I run 92 octane normally (yes my computer is set up for it...) and my friend puts in NOS octane booster which raises your octane 60 points (6 rating points) and mainly helps clean everything out with the MMT. I refuse to put anything lower than 92 octane gas in my car... So would 98 hurt the engine or would I be alright?

I ran gas close to that for my best times, but that was a special gas, not just high octane fuel. I don't think it'll hurt it, but any higher and you might start hurting things.

Will it hurt the engine? No. Will it even help the engine? Probably not, unless your engine needs it due to a higher than stock compression ratio, or an altered (advanced) ignition timing setting.

My timing is advanced slightly but I don't know if 98 would make that much of a diff anyhow? And it's mainly to clean everything out. The MMT in the octane booster serves as a cleaning agent too And if the car runs better... That's even better!

I think you'll see more results from seafoam. Have you done that yet?

Lol are you kidding Steve? Of course I have. The MMT helps clean up the gas though and prevents it from building up. Gas these days is gross... Lol

Personally I don't think it's worth the money. Heck, regular or mid grade is probably gonna do ya plenty good, if it's a dd street car. Most gas has ethanol in it now, which burns nice and clean, but takes a little power away (quick physics lesson, alcohol has less energy content than gas).

I second that.... all you are really doing is waisting money. You only have about 9.5:1 compression. Not nearly high enough to worry about needing high octane fuel.

As for cleaners, you need to watch out for that stuff. Once in a while is good for the car, everyday use is going to eat away at your injectors and sensors.

I don't use it every day lol. You guys are overreacting... I only asked if it would hurt anything... Not if it would help or your opinions on the matter... And I have a bit higher compression than stock and my car is tuned for higher octane fuel anyhow.... And I ran both of my best times on 95 octane gas.... So it must make a difference...
