Default New to your world, seeking advice

Hello all, I am new to the Camaro world, came into a deal on 1 '99 V-6 that I couldn't refuse.

I am competely lost at performance upgrades to this machine. I read the stickie here and the info was good but seemed generalized. Just wondering what specifics anyone might suggest.

Also specifically (1) Will a v-8 rear end slip right in with no modifications or is it the same unit just with a limited slip. (2) Does anyone have links to some turbo kits (3) What rear gear ratios do you reccommend? & (4) What is the general concensous for tuning this car {electronically} what is the most popular method/system, how hard is it etc.

I have alot of experience on other brands & older GM's but I know I am knowlegeless when it comes to late model GM's...seeking enlightenment...

TIA
David

The 3.8 v6 is a pretty popular engine, and there is a goodd amount of performance equipment for it. The rear end housing is the same for v8 & v6, but various gera ratios were used. The v8 was equipped with rear disk brakes, but I am not sure about the 99 v6. The computer "PCM" can be recalibrated to handle most upgrades. One source is PCM for Less. http://www.pcmforless.com/

Thanks for the info.

Mine has drum brakes in the rear. If the housing is the same it would probably be cheaper to find a v-8 rear end and swap in for the limited slip (I asume that is standard in the v-8 machines). Is the proportioninag valve or other brake system components different?

I'm thinking something like 3.73's is that a reasonable ratio?

Is there a home programable system for the pcm rather than having to out source it each time?

I have been hot rodding for years but this is my first GM product.

The 3.73 is a good all around ratio. Make sure you have a limited slip diff, otherwise all you be doing is smoke up the right rear tire.
